Work Experience in Early Childhood Education

Dogwood Preschool, Richmond, VA: Substitute Teacher, November 2025 – present 

• Supervise children ages 16 months to pre-K on the playground and in the hallways. 

• Assist lead teachers in classrooms, helping to provide a Montessori-, Reggio Emilia-, and Piaget-informed curriculum emphasizing exploration, confidence-building, and creativity. 

• I passed a background check and completed 18 hours of training for this position. 

All Saints Episcopal Church, Richmond, VA: Nursery Director, November 2025 - present

• Care for infants and toddlers (birth to 3 years) while their parents attend church services; change diapers, feed infants and supervise toddlers’ snack time; read stories and join in children’s play. 

• Supervise nursery staff. 

• I passed a background check and completed Safe Church training for this position. 

Babysitting, Richmond, VA: July 2025 - present 

• Care for young children both at home and in external settings such as Sunshine Play Cafe. 

• Provide for kids' needs by preparing and serving snacks, supervising safe playtime, changing diapers, and helping children settle down for naps.

• Join in child-directed play, such as painting, dancing, reading stories, and exploring the outdoors.  

• Provide library books based on children's interests. 

• Transport children to and from activities. 

Shineforth Child and Family Services (formerly United Methodist Family Services / UMFS), Richmond, VA: Childcare Volunteer, September 2024 – present 

• Assist social workers and fellow volunteers to provide childcare while parents and foster parents attend monthly support group. 

• Interact with youth ages 5 to 14, many of whom have special emotional needs. 

• Play with kids; supervise indoor and outdoor group activities; help to serve dinner. 

Coal Pit Learning Center, Glen Allen, VA: Curriculum Enrichment Volunteer, August 2024 – January 2025

• Created and led weekly art/craft activities, related to school’s curriculum and designed to build literacy and sensory/motor skills, for ~15 preschool children ages 3 to 5. 

• Read stories to class. 

• Played with kids on playground (mostly tag)! 

Smart Beginnings New River Valley, Blacksburg, VA: Literacy Resource Specialist, June – August 2015 

• Created and led fun literacy activities with ~80 pre-kindergarten children at four childcare centers. 

• Read stories to kids. 

• Played with kids on playground. 

• Recruited community partners, such as a police officer, to read to classes. 

• This position was a 300-hour AmeriCorps summer internship.

Montgomery County Public Schools, Blacksburg, VA: Creative Writing Volunteer, January – May 2014

• Worked with two groups of ten kindergarten students, visiting each group on alternate weeks throughout the semester. 

• Designed and led fun art/writing activities to build students’ creativity and emotional awareness.  

• Read kid-friendly poems to students. 

Mathnasium of Richmond, Richmond, VA: Lead Math Instructor, March 2012 – August 2013

• Provided one-on-one math instruction and enrichment to >200 students in 1st through 12th grade. 

• Used worksheets, manipulatives, and games to support each student's progression through an individualized curriculum. 

• Promoted to lead instructor because of my ability to engage students’ enthusiasm, explain concepts patiently without talking down to kids, and work with many different age and skill levels.

• Selected to lead two-week, foundational, pre-K class due to my excellent rapport with young children. 

• Taught four students ages four to six. 

• Working with kids' natural interests, designed fun games to build understanding of math concepts.
